San Gimignano is
surrounded by gently-rolling countryside dotted with vines and olive trees.
It has all the charm of a small
medieval town, built mainly of brick, and has been amazingly well preserved. It
was in the 12 C. when it was a free brought that the main buildings in the town
were constructed, including the outer walls, which still stand, and the famous
Tower-houses which caused the town to be called "S.Gimignano dalle belle
torri"(S.Gimignano of the fine towers) and for which it is still famous |
